Blog 8 - Beauty and the Beast

If you've been on social media at all this month, you've probably came across some advertisements for Beauty and the Beast. The highly anticipated movie was released on March 17, 2017. I haven't gotten the chance to see the movie yet, but the hype around this release is definitely convincing me to do so. It's the year's top opening so far with an estimated $170 in ticket sales just within the U.S.

In attempt to market Beauty and the Beast, Disney tried a variety of tactics to attract audiences nationwide. For example, on Valentine's Day, the company used Twitter to send roses to movie fans. Fans can use the hashtag #BeOurGuest to send "Beauty and the Beast" themed roses to their valentines. Disney also partnered with Spotify to give fans an exclusive look into the movie. This is an interesting marketing campaign. Besides showing viewers video ads and interviews, fans also get to virtually explore the castle, where they are assigned to a room based off the movie. Each room has its own Spotify playlist filled with Disney songs. To further add to the hype, A-list celebrities from John Legend to Celine Dion also chimed in on social media to help promote the film.
